Ait Benhaddou - Agdz -
Gorges du Todra
Aït
Benhaddou is a 'fortified city', or ksar, along the former
caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day
Morocco. It is situated on a hill along the Ouarzazate River and has some beautiful Kasbahs. Aït
Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and
several films have been shot here.
Agdz which means "resting place" is
located on the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. The
lively market is held weekly on
Thursdays.
Gorges du Todra
is situated on the remote east side of the High
Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Both the Todra and neighboring Dades
Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons (Arabic: wadi) on their
final 40 km through the mountains. The final 600 m of the Todra
gorge are the most spectacular. Here the canyon narrows to a flat stony
track as little as 10m wide, with sheer and smooth rock walls up to
160 m high on each side. Local people live in the area and can be
seen with their small donkeys, or herding sheeps.
