Ouarzazate
- Taroudant
Ouarzazate is famous for the
kasbah of Taourirt, the birthplace
of the last pasha of Marrakech, which not so long ago was inhabited
by over a thousand people.
Ouarzazate has been linked with cinema since 1984. Its
climate, geographical situation and economic conditions have
encouraged film studios to locate there. The sets of films such as
Lawrence of Arabia and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra or the
Sheltering Sky and Gladiator can be visited.
Just
like Marrakech, Taroudant has imposing adobe ramparts, adorned with
square towers. A 7km walk around it reveals its five gates, Bab El-Kasba
being the main one and the most majestic. The crenellated
fortifications are in an excellent condition. Its medina and its
souks are very lively.
