Western Myanmar Mrauk-U: 700 Buddhist pagodas in the midst of a
beautiful landscape
Mrauk U is an ancient city, where
according to the legend Lord Buddha has been.
Dotted in the midst of this beautiful landscape are about 700
Buddhist pagodas (temples), dating from the 16th century.
Mrauk U is scenically set against a backdrop of small hills with
some lakes.
|
 |
Western Myanmar: Rivers - sea - beaches
Western Myanmar is very 'watery'. It has many rivers, lakes and a
long coastline with several fine beaches. Beaches which
accommodation from simple huts to luxury resorts with every comfort. |
 |
Central Myanmar: Bagan
To me Bagan is the apex of a
civilization, like for instance Angkor in Cambodia. These people
created an amazing 2.224 Buddhist monuments, dating from Bagan's
"Golden Period" (1044 – 1287) with such a simple means. |
 |
Central Myanmar: Mandalay a wonderful city
Myanmar is a Buddhist country and Buddhism is very alive there.
According to the legend Buddha has visited Mandalay hill and pointed
to the direction where
Mandalay would be. I experienced the
Buddha energy as very strong there and I hope that this movie
transmits some of it, combined with the special
Buddhist mantras. |
 |
Central Myanmar: Ancient cities around Mandalay
Around Mandala
are the ancient cities of Amarapura
(city of immortality), Inwa and

teak span bridge in the world and Sagaing hill

simple bamboo huts. |
 |
Central Myanmar: Taunggyi - Pindaya caves

Bago

Also impressive is watching the monks getting food and presents from
devotees. |
 |
Yangon the capital of Myanmar with the wonderful ShweDagon pagoda.
Yangon is the capital of Myanmar with
as highlight the ShweDagon pagoda, one
of the most fascinating conglomerations of Buddhist pagodas I have
seen. It feels somewhere as the centre of the Buddhist Universe on
this planet.
The city center of Yangon is a
combination of British colonial architecture, Buddhist stupas, Hindu
temples and Muslim mosques. Yangon has several lively and colorful
markets, also in the evening |
 |
Southern Myanmar: Hpa-An with beautiful surroundings
Hpa-An is the Capital of Kayin State.
The main attractions are scattered around the beautiful
surroundings:
• Mt Zwegabin is the tallest of a chain
of limestone mountains.

with a column, standing sheer out of a lake.
• Saddar Cave contains a pagoda near

Century artwork with thousands of Buddha images.
|
 |
Southern Myanmar has kept a lot of its old charm
From Yagon it has been a comfortable train journey to
Mawlamyine. The landscape and the
people on the stations were fascinating. There is such a natural and
relaxed atmosphere everywhere. Strolling to the streets of
Mawlamyine, visiting some of the
beautiful pagodas, watching the people, seeing the lively markets,
has been a beautiful experience.
Around Mawlamyine, also on the road to
Hpa-An, are magnificent Karst (limestone) mountains with many caves

Central America: The Maya route
 |
The
Mayan Sacred Sites: Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Palenque, Copán and Tikal
Maya
architecture spans many thousands of years; yet, often the most
dramatic and easily recognizable as Maya are the stepped pyramids
from the Terminal Pre-classic period and beyond.
Chichen Itza was a large pre-Columbian
city built by the Maya civilization. The archaeological site is
located in the Mexican state of Yucatán. Chichen Itza was one of the
largest Maya cities and it was likely to have been one of the
mythical great cities, or Tollans, referred to in later Mesoamerican
literature.
Uxmal is a large pre-Columbian ruined
city of the Maya civilization in the state of Yucatán, Mexico.
Its magnificent pyramids and structures make it a popular tourist
destination.
Palenque was a Maya city state in
southern Mexico that flourished in the 7th century. After its
decline it was absorbed into the jungle, but has been excavated and
restored and is now a famous archaeological site attracting
thousands of visitors.
Copán is an archaeological site of the
Maya civilization located in western Honduras, not far from the
border with Guatemala.
Tikal is one of the largest
archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Maya
civilization. It is located in what is now northern Guatemala. |
 |
This
Central America trip visits Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras and
follows the MAYA route
These countries are rich in nature: beautiful tropical jungles with
all kind of wildlife. Hidden in some jungles are magnificent
Maya ruins. There are also amazing
lakes with volcano's like Lake Atitlan,
rivers like the Rio Dulce and majestic
waterfalls like Agua Azul and Misol Ha.
And not to forget fine beaches with an azure-blue sea and coral
riffs.
There are several old colonial cities in Mexico and Guatemala, great
places to dwell through the old streets and marvel at the splendid
churches and other old buildings.
My favorite old colonial cities are Campeche,
San Cristobal and Antigua.
Last but non least the colorful Indian and
Mayan girls and women. The today's Mayas have an peculiar
blend of Christian beliefs and their old traditions. Like ritual
slaughter of chickens in their church, sometimes filled with strange
saints and their own folk saint Maximon.
Highlights for me were San Juan and
Chichicastenango with their alluring markets. |

Egypt: Ancient temples at Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Kom Ombo and
Edfu
Luxor has frequently been characterized
as the "world's greatest open air museum", the ruins of the temple
complexes at Karnak and Luxor standing
within the modern city.
Immediately opposite, across the Nile River, lie the monuments,
temples and tombs on the West Bank Necropolis, which include the
Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens.
Aswan's location is at the first
Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between
Egypt and Nubians.
In the Nile the island of Elephantine,
which is the largest of the Aswan area islands, and is one of the
most ancient sites in Egypt, with artifacts dating to predynastic
periods.
Abu Simbel is an archaeological site
comprising two massive rock temples in southern Egypt on the western
bank of Lake Nasser about 290 km southwest of Aswan.
The Temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual
double temple built during the rule Ptolemaic dynasty.
The Temple of Edfu is an ancient
Egyptian temple located on the west bank of the Nile in the city of
Edfu.

 |
Egypt:
Cairo with the pyramids, the Western and Sinai desert with Mount
Sinai and Dahab
Cairo is located on the banks and islands of the Nile River
in the north of Egypt.
West of Giza, in the desert, are three large pyramids, including the
Great Pyramid of Giza.
The immense desert to the west of the Nile
spans the area from the Mediterranean Sea south to the Sudanese
border.
The Sinai is a magical and biblical desert
with as highlights Mount Sinai, where Moses got the ten commands and
the Saint Catherine's Monastery with the chapel of the burning bush. |

Marrakech Morocco: an enthralling and exotic Eastern experience
Marrakech is the principal capital of south Morocco. The city's
dazzling centre, the Djemaa el Fna square, is an enthralling and
exotic Eastern experience populated by snake-charmers, acrobats and
storytellers. Marrakech has a medieval medina and markets. |
 |
Morocco: Ait Benhaddou, Agdz and Gorges du Todra
Aďt Benhaddou
is a 'fortified city' along the former caravan route between the
Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco.
Agdz which means "resting place" is
located on the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. The
lively market is held weekly on Thursdays.
Gorges du Todra. The final 600 m of the
Todra gorge are the most spectacular as the canyon narrows to a flat
stony track as little as 10m wide in places, with sheer and smooth
rock walls up to 160 m high on each side. |
 |
Unique animated photos of Erg Chebbi, a desert in south-eastern
Morocco and Merzouga
East
of village of Merzouga lies
Erg Chebbi in south-eastern Morocco. It
is one of two Saharan ergs in the
northwest African nation. Its distinctive ergs — large dunes formed
by wind-blown sand — reach up to 150 meters high, and form a
composite erg 22 km long (north-south) and 5 km wide. |
 |
Morocco: Ouarzazate-Taroudant: kasbahs, medinas and souks
Ouarzazate is famous for the kasbah of
Taourirt, the birthplace of the last pasha of Marrakech. Just like
Marrakech, Taroudant has imposing adobe
ramparts, adorned with square towers. Its medina and its souks are
very lively. |
 |
Agadir and Essaouira seaside resorts along Morocco's Atlantic coast
Agadir is an important fishing and
commercial port. It is also a seaside resort with a long sandy
beach.
Essaouira is the most picturesque and
relaxed coastal town along Morocco's Atlantic coast. The Medina of
Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage city. |
 |
Men,
women and girls of Morocco. Unique photos showed in an unique way!!
Morocco a changing society full of contrasts. I saw
young beautiful Moroccan girls and women
full of juice and energy. But I saw also so many people, who looked
unhappy, especially women. Also ghostlike
appearances, which could hardly being recognized as human
beings or women. |

Discovering and exploring the world. Journeys into the unknown!
The

far away countries
Cascais, close to Lisbon, is a popular
vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists.
Sintra is dotted by royal retreats,
castles and buildings from the 8th-9th century. |
