About the pictures of Egypt

To give you the best possible impression of Egypt, I have used a combination of the most advanced digital camera to date (with 27x zoom) and the most advanced digital photo enhancing software. This has resulted in series of unique pictures of Egypt. These pictures are carefully arranged in a kind of slideshows. In this way the photos together will give you the feeling of a virtual journey through Egypt.

A magical journey

A journey in Egypt is magical journey. It is like a journey to another time when visiting the ancient pyramids and temples or to another planet (or moon) when travelling through the endless deserts.

This country is also a living monument and bears witness that it are always the inspired individuals who accomplish great projects. Like the pharaohs inspired by their Gods. Or as some very ancient sources mention that the gods descended on earth. And if you look to the state of the world 5000 years ago, it is indeed a miracle that such a great civilization blossomed so suddenly. If you are sensitive nowadays you can still feel this magical power, when visiting these ancient sites.

As the Unesco state this so beautifully: 'monuments bearing witness to man’s creative genius, his struggles, hopes, aspiration and vision of the world'.

Some general facts

Egypt is a country in North Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula forming a land bridge to Western Asia. Egypt borders the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west.

Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East. The great majority of its estimated 82 million live near the banks of the Nile River, in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers, where the only arable agricultural land is found. The large areas of the Sahara Desert are sparsely inhabited. About half of Egypt's residents live in urban areas, with the majority spread across the densely-populated centers of greater Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta.

Over the ages, and as far back as seven thousand years, Egypt stood as the land where civilizations have always met. The Pharaohs together with the Greeks and the Romans have left their imprints here. If anything, the cultural mix in this country is natural, given its heritage. Egypt can be likened to an open museum with monuments of the different historical periods on display everywhere.

Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world's most famous monuments, including the Giza pyramid complex and its Great Sphinx. The southern city of Luxor contains numerous ancient artifacts, such as the Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Egypt is widely regarded as an important political and cultural nation of the Middle East.
